The Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.) Degree Program provides a framework of individualized study within an Applied Studies or Arts and Sciences designation that gives great freedom to choose courses which meet career or education goals. This three year B.G.S. Degree allows students to complete the degree at Blue Quills. The degree will be awarded from Athabasca University.
The 90-credit B.G.S. Degree may lead to second degrees in faculties such as education and social work. This program allows maximum freedom to develop intellectual and academic interests.
General degree requirements for the Bachelor of General Studies include 90 credits:
Minimum Credits Required
*The-100 level ENGL courses will not satisfy the Humanities are of study requirement in this program however, they will count as part of the total number of credits required for the degree.
Maximum Credits Allowed *
* The Bachelor of General Studies does not have a residency requirement, and degree requirements may be completed at other institutions other than Athabasca University.

Arts and Science – 9 credits
Applied Studies – 21 credits
Students in the B.G.S. Degree Program must choose either an Applied Studies or an Arts and Sciences designation. This designation will determine the courses completed.
Arts and Science Designation
To satisfy the 90-credit requirement to complete the B.G.S. degree, students must complete 45 credits in courses with an Arts (Humanities and/or Social Science) or Science designation (30 of these credits must be taken at the senior (300 or 400) level.
Applied Studies Designation
To satisfy the 90-credit requirement to complete the B.G.S. degree, students must complete 45 credits in courses with an Applied Studies designation (30 of these credits must be taken at the senior (300-400) level.
