Preparation Training Program

The Blue Quills pre-trades program touches on all aspects of being ready for an apprenticeship career: the academic skills required to succeed in the technical part of apprenticeship training, the job maintenance skills required to secure and keep a job in any of the trades, and the work specific knowledge that is required to be successful in the choice of career.
Phase 1: Pre-Apprenticeship 16 weeks
Phase 2: Student Diversion and Placement 16 weeks
Route 1 -
Students will continue in pre-trades curriculum and write an entrance examination specific to the trade of their choice. Students will then be placed into the workforce and register as an apprentice in Alberta.
- Entrance Examinations (3 attempts)
- Job Shadowing/Work Placements
Route 2 –
Students who meet the minimum education requirements set out by Alberta Apprenticeship will be placed into the following technical training at Blue Quills
- Pre-Carpentry (10 students)
- Pre-Welding (10 students)
- Pre-Pipefitting (10 students)
- Pre-Heavy Duty Mechanics (10 students)
Students who complete the 16 week program will have an opportunity to challenge their first year of technical training
