JOB STATEMENT
Blue Quills First Nations College is seeking a highly motivated individual to work collaboratively within the Management Team. The Director of Programs has the overall responsibility of the university and college programs operations and to oversee the Masters of Education program in particular. The Director provides educational leadership to ensure successful operations of First Nations and adult professional education in alignment with the College vision, mission and philosophy.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Educational Leadership - within a team-oriented organizational environment, support excellence in addressing the learning and academic needs of students.
Planning and program delivery - oversees the delivery of a Masters of Education degree program and provides supervision to students in the program. Understands the educational needs of the owner First Nations in this region and oversees the initiation of new programs and existing programs in consultation with Coordinators. Submits proposals, briefs and reports.
Curriculum development and instruction – collaborates with post-secondary institutions to ensure that curricula align with the needs of Blue Quills students and the college vision and philosophy. Provides instruction and facilitates workshop from time to time.
Funding – prepares proposals and negotiates funding for post-secondary programs. Assists Director of Finance to prepare and present to the Board of Governors an annual budget for all college and university programs.
Personnel – oversees hiring, discipline, supervision and orientation for college faculty and instructors.
Student support – oversees the shared responsibility of student recruitment, admissions, academic and career guidance and addresses student appeals.
Liaison - participates in meetings with post-secondary institutions and funding agencies to ensure BQFNC needs are represented. Serves in an advisory capacity on committees that have an interest in First Nations post-secondary education.
Policy development – recommends new policies and oversees existing policies regarding College/University studies as determined by and in accordance with the Board of Governors.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Masters level in a relevant field
Knowledge of Cree and Dene culture a definite asset
Knowledge of post-secondary curricula and university and college educational standards
Knowledge of post-secondary systems in Alberta and First Nations Colleges
Excellent interpersonal skills
Possess writing skills for proposals, to analyze data, synthesize and prepare reports
Possess computer skills
Is a team player and is committed to personal health and wellbeing.
Possess a valid driver’s license and own or have access to a vehicle;
Willingness to travel within Treaty Six Territory and other destinations when required;
Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree land/or Dene language an asset.
