B.Ed years 3 & 4 at Blue Quills

The next U of A, ATEP cohort at Blue Quills is scheduled to start September 2012.
ATEP offers years 3 and 4 of the B.ED at BQ.
Anyone interested in obtaining a B.ED at BQ should enroll this September 2010 to complete years one and two to be ready to enroll in ATEP for 2012.

 

The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Transfer Program allows students to complete, at Blue Quills, up to 60 credits toward their degree in Elementary Education. Students wishing to pursue the teaching profession and wanting to start on a path towards a career in education in an aboriginal supportive environment are encouraged to try Blue Quills First Nations College.

Students wishing to pursue a degree in Secondary Education may complete at least 27 credits at Blue Quills.

Students admitted to this program are registered as Open Studies students with the University of Alberta. After completing a minimum of 24 credits as Open Studies students, individuals can apply to the Faculty of Education to complete their Bachelor of Education degree.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

*Please note that the program leading to the Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education stipulates the completion of at least three credits in mathematics, at least three credits in science, and at least six credits in English. In order to maximize the student’s chance for success in the Education Faculty, students are required to have at least 65% in English 30 or be prepared to take non-credit courses in preparation to do the required university English course. The equivalent of at least Math 20 and a science at the 30 level are very strongly recommended. Applicants are encouraged to upgrade in these areas in order to maximize their chances of success.

*In addition, the computing requirement, EDIT 202, presupposes basic keyboarding, word processing and internet skills. Students are encouraged to upgrade in these areas.

TRANSFER

Upon completing their courses at Blue Quills, students must apply and be admitted to Faculty of Education. Admission to the Faculty is on a competitive basis; the minimum grade point average required for admission to the third year at the University of Alberta depends upon the qualifications of applicants that particular year. In order to graduate with a B.Ed., a student must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in the most recent 60 credits completed at the U of A.

Blue Quills students can achieve University of Alberta transfer credit at Blue Quills by completing Blue Quills courses or Athabasca University courses with a mark of at least 60%.

The B.Ed. Transfer Program is a full time program; students should expect to spend each day, from Monday to Friday engaged in these studies.

Bachelor of Education Teaching Certification Requirements:

After completing the B.Ed, all students must apply to the Minister of Education for a teaching certificate.  As part of the application process, students will be asked whether they possess a criminal conviction.   A criminal conviction may result in being denied certification.
